Steel beam HEA / HEB / IPE under extension - dimensioning help
The existing walls distribute the load on the underlying floor better than an iron pillar (without a plate underneath). If the house was built for this wall to be load-bearing, I believe there is a rim beam beneath the door and wall that is thicker than the rest of the basement floor. When the floor under the door was cast in 1958, I believe that reinforcing iron was used very sparingly in the construction. If the floor consists of a thin concrete slab (6-8cm), it cannot withstand a large load.
