Hello, we have a straight old staircase with 14 steps that we want to freshen up. I'm not completely inept but have never done this before, my question is: how do you proceed if you want oak steps and the rest of the staircase painted white? What paint should be used and should we buy laminate flooring, what looks best and what is most cost-effective? Are there stair noses that fit the specific laminate flooring you want, or do you cut these from the laminate flooring? Grateful for all the help.

I think laminate looks terrible even in stairs, it looks completely lifeless. Buy ready-made oak steps with stair nosing and back edge trim to make it easiest for you, but it will cost more. I used these in my staircase which is like yours.

Wash, adhesive primer, floor paint is what my varnished pine staircase was painted with. Used step kit steps bought at byggmax. It turned out well. It's important to be precise with measuring and cutting, of course.
