Took down our rickety trellis. Any tips on what can be built smoothly?

A staircase with a wooden handrail, baby gate, and white cabinet. A ball is visible under the stairs. The wall is painted light blue.
Wooden staircase with a temporary child safety gate and a white storage unit below.
Wooden staircase with light-colored steps and a temporary child safety gate at the base, set against a partly bare wall.
Then the usual question, paint the stairs or not? My partner would like white stairs, but how is it with paint? I have a feeling it can become quite slippery?

We also have a temporary gate for our 1.5-year-old.

Anyone have any thoughts and tips on this?

It won't be slippery, for example, you can just varnish the steps after you've painted the entire staircase. Then you varnish with a matte gloss only, you can also paint the entire staircase with a 15 gloss. Doesn't feel slippery at home anyway. :)

Thanks for the tip. Does anyone have any tips on what to use for building a trellis?

I'm just a painter, not so good with ideas for a trellis :D

It's alright, I thought generally someone on this forum should have a good idea :-)

Submit the old trellis for spray painting

Unfortunately, the old one is beyond all saving. I'm thinking of using 45x45 studs now.

Make sure to choose high-quality wood so it doesn't crack or warp. As few knots as possible. Not construction studs if you want it to look okay over time.

I don't think I find anything other than byggreglar.

It might be worth going to a proper sawmill and buying planed quality pine or even better wood for carpentry work. Of course, you can try construction studs, but there's a risk that it's cheap wood that won't hold its shape. Considering it will be visible, I mean. Lots of knots = hard to paint without breakthrough

Good luck, hope it turns out well!
