Took down our rickety trellis. Any tips on what can be built smoothly?
Then the usual question, paint the stairs or not? My partner would like white stairs, but how is it with paint? I have a feeling it can become quite slippery?
We also have a temporary gate for our 1.5-year-old.
It won't be slippery, for example, you can just varnish the steps after you've painted the entire staircase. Then you varnish with a matte gloss only, you can also paint the entire staircase with a 15 gloss. Doesn't feel slippery at home anyway.
Make sure to choose high-quality wood so it doesn't crack or warp. As few knots as possible. Not construction studs if you want it to look okay over time.
It might be worth going to a proper sawmill and buying planed quality pine or even better wood for carpentry work. Of course, you can try construction studs, but there's a risk that it's cheap wood that won't hold its shape. Considering it will be visible, I mean. Lots of knots = hard to paint without breakthrough
Good luck, hope it turns out well!
