Satisfied you should be. Very nice result. I am going to do a similar stair renovation shortly. Just didn't see the reason to call other ways of doing it cheating. It's up to each person to choose how they want their staircase, right?
Well, TS was thinking of gluing a carpet on top of the old one and that's not really ideal.
Then I've seen those who painted their old pine staircase and how they look after a while when the paint is worn off the steps.
But okay, cheating might have been a bit too much because there are those who do a solid job.
We had previously considered sanding our staircase and varnishing it again, but after a few years with a big dog, there were pretty deep marks from the claws when the dog was downstairs and the doorbell rang upstairs.
That's why I really like the solid treads (8 mm thick) which were also better in terms of slip resistance.
