I've started looking at renovation options for our 70s pine staircase. It's an open staircase, and we want to maintain that openness. I'm thinking of painting the side panels white and putting dark brown stair renovation laminate on the steps. But nowhere can I find instructions on what to do with the undersides of the steps? I would prefer not to paint the undersides white, as it gives a cluttered impression. Ideally, I would like the undersides of the steps to also have the dark wood color. Unfortunately, staining the current steps in a dark shade is out of the question as the steps are very worn, and no sanding in the world would make it look good. But isn't there a solution to get the undersides in the same stair renovation material as the tops? Anyone know? Anyone with pictures?

Place your laminate on the underside and it's done.
