Though I would rather let the rafters rest on the posts..........In that case, it's more normal to bevel these a little so they rest on a flat post.

Yes, and then notch a wedge in the rafter so it rests flat. That's usually how it's done, and then as you've drawn, let the rafter extend a bit so you have something to lay the roof on. Otherwise, you'll only have a roof up to the post.
That's how I have it today, but it won't work with this new structure. Regardless, I will not split the LTB. Thanks for all the answers.S Stefan1972 said:
