I will have a lot of offcuts from my wall studs for the garage, a number of 2300 long pieces. What do you think about using these as top plates, especially in areas like the gables that are not as heavily loaded? I will also have a recessed bearing beam around under the top plate, so I think it should be okay, what do you think?
If you plan to have a recessed carrying beam all around, it will work perfectly, as it will be the one to bear any weights. If you want and have access to a specific type of fastening gun, you can lay the pieces continuously and fasten them together, making it stronger, but it's not necessary.
