Hello, I have a ceiling made of tongue and groove Tretex that I would like to upgrade to a ceiling with paneling. I'm considering whether I should leave the Tretex in place and put furring strips on it. Partly because I think it provides some insulation against the cold attic above and prevents too much wood shavings from falling through the gaps at the ceiling/wall angle. It's worth mentioning that there is only wood shavings and mineral wool as insulation between the ceiling and the attic, no plastic or anything like that.

The question is whether there is any reason to tear it down or if it can stay and I just screw the furring strips straight through it into the planks above? I need to pull some additional tandoori and that's why I'm thinking of using furring strips. Am I thinking right here or am I off track?
I'm attaching a picture of what it looks like currently.
Ceiling made of tongue-and-groove Tretex boards, joining with a painted wall corner, viewed from below for renovation project consideration.

Hello, I have an inner ceiling made of tongued Tretex that I would like to upgrade to a panel ceiling. I'm considering leaving the Tretex intact and putting battens on it. Partly because I think it provides some insulation against the cold attic above and prevents too much sawdust from falling through the gaps in the ceiling/wall angle. It's worth mentioning that there is only sawdust and mineral wool as insulation between the inner ceiling and attic, i.e., no plastic or anything.

The question is whether there's a reason to take it down or if it can stay, and I'll just screw the battens right through it into the raw boards above? I need to run some additional conduits and was thinking of battening for that reason. Am I thinking correctly here, or am I off track? Attaching a picture of how it looks currently.

Anyone daring to take a guess? What could go wrong if I leave the Tretex as is?

You can let it be and thin it out.

Awesome, thanks for the answer, just use screws long enough so they anchor in the overlying råspont, right?

Yes, you must have that.
