I have installed an insert fireplace and will now lay out a spark guard.

The ones available do not suit my taste, so I thought of trying to cast a small slab in cement/concrete and press in some nice stones as decoration.

Do I need any special mortar for this, or can I use the plaster mortar I already have on hand? I have a feeling it is more prone to cracking.

Regards, Fred

Plaster is soft and will release your stones, if the stones are to stay fixed, fine concrete is what you need, preferably with a plaster net as reinforcement.

Thanks for the info! I'll try that.
I'll get back with the results.

A step in the right direction at least.
