I have started planning to renovate the laundry room, where the geothermal heat pump is also located. It undeniably makes some noise, and I would therefore like to reduce the sound that leaks out through the door to the rest of the house. Thus, it's not vibration noise, but airborne noise that I want to reduce.

How do I do that? Install sound absorbers or soundproofing mats? On all walls and ceiling, or just some? Anyone with some simple, practical tips on how I should proceed?

What type of door leaf do you have? There is a huge difference between a solid one and a cheaper papier-mache one...

The door will be fixed, but it will also have a cat flap in the new one, and I suspect that quite a (whole?) bit will leak through there regardless. The new door will be solid.

The simplest and most effective way is to build the heat pump into a soundproofed cabinet.

I have, like you, the pump in the laundry room in a corner. I put up sliding doors and made a closet/tech room for the pump and some wire baskets. It helped a lot.
