I have a problem today with sound (talking, music, etc.) being heard between the floors in my house, a single-story with a basement. The floor structure is about 200mm, wooden floorboards above and in the ceiling wooden paneling and plasterboard in some parts.

Anyone have any tips on how I can modify the basement ceiling to reduce the sound level? Plasterboard, soundproofing panels, etc., ceiling height is 2.09m today, can take about 4cm.

Grateful for all tips and ideas.

I have a similar problem, but I want to prevent sound from reaching the floor above. I'm considering insulating the joists with rock wool, then adding furring strips and gypsum on top of that. However, I'm a bit concerned about the ceiling height since it's a living room. Ideally, I would like to install double gypsum.

From what I understand, when it comes to soundproofing, weight is the key.

One should preferably build a suspended ceiling that hangs in "soft braces" from the existing ceiling. Cover it with double layers of plasterboard. Mineral wool can be added but contributes very marginally to sound insulation.

I agree with everything here except the mineral wool, seal with stone wool as mentioned above, it works well.

Seal you must, but with sealant - all openings must be completely sealed.
Mineral wool does no harm, but you get a better effect if you spend the money on gypsum!
