Hi, I'm considering soundproofing several rooms for a generally better sound environment. The children play instruments and sing, the neighbors and traffic are loud. Additionally, we will be working more from home and talking a lot on the phone.

I've read about thick curtains, but I'm considering some type of panels to put on walls, ceilings, larger furniture, etc. Curtains can only go on walls and must be very thick.

Ideas
Ordinary ceiling tiles on walls too? Manufacture these yourself?

Sensitive, easily damaged? Gray/white?

I'm considering 1 and 4 as they seem easiest to mount on entire walls/ceilings.

The measures you list lead to increased sound absorption in the apartment's rooms, resulting in reduced reverberation times. This is good if one does not ever need to be heard or hears poorly. I wouldn't call it soundproofing, as noise from traffic and neighbors is not directly affected. For good sound absorption, it's important to cover as large surfaces as possible with materials that have good absorption. If you want to isolate a room from its surroundings, other types of measures are required. What is suitable depends on how the walls, doors, and windows are constructed.

When it comes to increasing sound absorption, it's good if you can experiment. In an extremely dampened room, conversations cannot be conducted. Personally, I think it's better to place absorption on the walls and keep the ceiling free.

The simplest thing, first and foremost, is soft carpets. For a good sound environment, it's best to dampen an opposing side, carpets on the floor, so you don't need to dampen the ceiling, dampen a large wall, but not the opposite one.
