We are going to demolish the existing house and build a new one. The architect's proposal shows a built-in garage adjacent to the house. However, our drinking water well is located right in front of the house. The cover today is a thick concrete block that can be opened.
Question: Can you place a flat well cover that can also be driven over by the car going into the garage? (The red yard pump is just decoration and will be removed) Or is there maybe some other smart solution?
Sure, there are manhole covers that can be driven over, but the question is whether the well walls themselves can handle it.
Then there's another thing to consider, and that's that a car releases all sorts of chemicals. These can run down into the well.. Perhaps not so suitable.
I would either consider drilling a new well in a different location or designing the house so that the well is not disturbed.
If you have your own septic system, also make sure it's located "downstream" in relation to the water well.
Thanks for the input on the well walls. We hadn't considered those. The well is 33 meters deep and was dug in 1968.
We do have an electric car, by the way, but we're thinking the car will be inside the garage. I don’t know how it's constructed, but I assume that things inside the garage don't just flow out?
I mainly think that one would want the option to wash the car on the driveway, i.e. in front of the garage where it's close to electricity and water. (then surely someone will say that you're not allowed to do that, but that's another forum thread).
What do you think about paving the driveway with curbs, having a stormwater drain that then leads the water to another part of the property?
