I have Googled and Googled and have not found spårskruv (wood screws) in any coarser dimensions, I would need some 6.0x100 or alternatively 5.0x90 to put up a shelf on the wall.

Anyone have a tip?

Slot screws are doubtful to find but cross, Philips, or Pozidriv are available.

Check with Biltema Würth, local hardware store.

Hmm... might have to settle for that

It's a bit of a hell to get a 6x100 slot screw into anything other than mashed potatoes. Additionally, there's a high risk of slipping and hitting the wall or your hand with the screwdriver. Alternatively, the whole slot is completely mashed before the screw is properly in the wall.

No, go with something like ESSVE 6x100 :)

You undeniably have a point, I'll try to find Phillips instead, I refuse Torx...

To get large slotted screws in, pre-drilling and a suitably fitting screwdriver are essential. But then again, you might do quite well if you have a bit of skill and take it easy.

But it's a completely dead product, so it's not easy to say where one might find it. Maybe some old carpentry that's been in the same place for at least 40 years has a dusty half-full package they're glad to get rid of?

Why is that?

Torx is absolutely wonderful to work with. It's almost impossible for the bits to climb out...

You are absolutely right about torx, but it doesn't look very nice on visible fittings and the like. I'll check with the local carpentry!

I understand TS's need for nice screw heads and would without a doubt have made an effort to find slot screws for the heads that are visible. With a brace and bit and the right screwdriver head, it's no problem to drive in really thick slot screws. However, I believe that countersunk Torx with the right surface treatment in a correctly countersunk hole is the least unsightly alternative to slot screws.

I have looked at the byggfabriken but unfortunately they have dimensions that are too weak, it seems like all the building restoration sites are selling the same range of slotted screws - unfortunately.

Check with Göteborgs Skruvcenter 031 - 54 03 35 www.skruvcenter.se (bad website=good sign) They have a ton of odd screws in stock, including complete UNC/UNF and a lot of untreated ones.
