Can you help me with this?

I'm wondering how to calculate the maximum load on a beam resting on supports at both ends?

For example, I have a beam that is 45x220 and 2.5m long, how much can it support with a hanging object in the middle (worst place)?
If I wanted to lift some weights, 25kg, 250kg, 2500kg ;)
 
Check out traguiden.se, floor beam sizing, and you can get an estimate of what load it can handle... keep in mind that different joists are rated differently, K24 for structural timber.

You can probably fairly safely assume it's closer to 2500 kg rather than 250... but if you're going to hang a car from the ceiling overhead or something, you'd better check it:-)

I was planning to lift a lathe off the trailer, unknown weight, maybe 500kg. Absolutely max 1 ton. There will be two beams, so it shouldn't be a problem. It won't be loaded in the center of the beam either.

Can't remember if it was 45*95 or 45*120, wood is stronger than you think :)
