I’m planning to build a garage but have a height limitation and want to have a car lift, so I’m thinking of building a pitched roof. The problem is that the garage door will be on the gable end, so I need something to support above it; the question is how thick does it need to be? The walls are intended to be built with 145mm thick studs and I live in Halland, so snow load is zone 1 or max 1.5. Is the long glulam beam 115x315x800 thick enough?
Any tips on how to build this in the best way are appreciated.

Check the Moelven app. There you can also check the ridge beam and the posts (if I remember correctly) next to the gate.
I can get the sizing for the ridge beam and the point load that will be in the middle above the garage door in that app, but I'm not quite sure how to calculate the beam above the garage door.
The point load is apparently supposed to be 31.2 Kn if I've done it correctly in the app, so the question is how thick the beam above the garage door needs to be to withstand it.

If one estimates roughly (without knowing details of the construction) considering about 2 kN/sqm for self-weight and snow load, the entire roof structure will weigh approximately 80 kN, of which half, 40 kN, will be on the ridge beam. In that case, a glulam beam with the dimensions 115x315 is just on the limit. The point load over the garage opening should be about 20 kN and not 31.2. Then a glulam beam with the dimensions 115x270 is sufficient. To accurately dimension the posts surrounding the door, their height must be known, but glulam posts with dimensions 115x115 can handle 14 kN per post up to a buckling length of 8 meters, so they certainly work. A certain warning regarding dimensioning apps might be warranted.

Yes, 115x360 will be fine.
Hi, I'm working on a similar project, a 9x10m garage, and according to the Svenskt Trä app, they don't have a beam that can handle such a long span with 2 posts in the wall gables. However, I might consider a third post 2m into the garage. What size beam would be needed in that case?
Snow zone 3
Metal roof
Insulated garage
Additionally, I will have to break off the roof against the gable of the house, so there will also be a beam resting on the garage's beam and the house, approximately 4.5m.
