Sizing of roof beams/support beams for deck.
I am planning to renovate my existing deck or replace it. It has now been there for almost 40 years, so it has evidently withstood the weather elements. I live in snow zone 2.
After reading a bit about the sizing of, among other things, roof beams and support beams here on the forum, I don't understand how my deck roof is standing at all. The roof's dimensions are 4.5 x 4.5 m.
-The deck roof's rafters 150 x 35 are attached to the house's rafters 120 cc.
-The rafters rest on a front support beam 150 x 35.
-The support beam is carried by 3 posts 10 x 10 with 225 cc.
-Nail boards 70 x 45 for the plastic roof are toe-nailed between the rafters 60 cc.
Could this roof be approved? Could it really be granted by the building committee? What would you do? Keep it, or build new and if so, with what sizing?

If it looks good, having survived the challenges of last winter, I would refurbish it with a brush.källare said:I am going to renovate my existing patio or replace it. It has now been there for almost 40 years, so it has evidently withstood the forces of nature. I live in snow zone 2.
After reading a bit about the dimensioning of, among other things, roof beams and bearing beams here on the forum, I don’t understand how my patio roof is standing at all. The roof's dimensions are 4.5 x 4.5 m.
-The patio roof trusses 150 x 35 are attached to the house's trusses 120 cc.
-The trusses rest on a front bearing beam 150 x 35.
-The bearing beam is supported by 3 posts 10 x 10 with 225 cc.
-Spike battens 70 x 45 for the plastic roof are skew-nailed between the trusses 60 cc.
Can this roof be approved? Could it really have been approved by the building committee? What would you do? Keep it, or build a new one and, in that case, with what dimensioning?
If you feel a bit uncertain, you can add small braces that look like ornaments where they would be useful.
Thank you.
I will also be replacing the decking on the patio. The decking today is 20 mm attached to nail battens of 120 x 25 with 60 cc. The nail battens are then laid on buried telephone poles. The patio floor is quite shaky so I will probably have to increase the dimension of the decking, but I haven't decided what to do with the nail battens yet. How long do telephone poles that are 2/3 buried in the ground last?
