Should the gable overlap or the wall?
Hello!
In the process of building a garage where the walls are 6 meters and the gables are 5.5 meters.
I'm pondering what is common practice, letting the walls overlap the gables as shown in the picture on the left.
Or vice versa, letting the gable overlap the wall as shown in the picture on the right.
Instinctively, I feel it might be wise to let the wall overlap as on the left, so the truss can lie over the gable and lock it against the walls.
Is there any rule or is it six of one, half a dozen of the other?
Kind regards,
Fredrik

I don't know if there is a rule (I don't think so).
I'm taking a chance anyway on letting the gable overlap the long sides of our garage.
The sketch I've attached of the execution I think I might change a bit. Letting the vertical studs in the gable be longer so they reach up into the gable peak feels like an excellent idea. Then it will be easy to place 45x45s all the way up so that the nail battens and paneling are in the right place ...

Hello!
Thank you so much for your reply!
Very nice sketch.
I was also thinking of doing it like you at first.
But my gut feeling says it should be the other way around.
In my book "Garageboken" on page 70, there's a sketch but I think it shows this poorly.
Does anyone know if there is another book that describes the construction of the framework?
Best regards,
Fredrik

Hello!
I found the page http://www.svenskttra.org/byggbeskrivningar/ which seems to be able to generate drawings.
When looking at a top view drawing, it seems to me like the sides overlap the gables.
When looking at the wall drawings, they seem to have dimensions that overlap.
This puzzled me until I looked at:
http://www.svenskttra.org/byggbeskr...&FileTypeId=103&Doc=broschyr&Cid=1012032&Pid=
Here, they seem to interlock the walls in at least 2 places.
What do you think about this?
Have I interpreted it correctly?
Best regards,
Fredrik
