Short drywall screw?

Hello. I have now installed OSB on the gable ends. I thought it would be nice to be able to attach the drywall boards in the middle as well, between two studs. But shouldn't the drywall screws be very short then? e.g., 24mm (11 mm OSB + 13 mm drywall); otherwise, the screw would go into the plastic and right into "the air" = not good.
