The advantage of HEA is primarily when you want to connect two beams together. It's easy to bolt H beams against each other, but with VKR you have to weld, which you sometimes want to avoid. Otherwise, VKR works just as well internally in the house where it doesn't rust.

I found a piece of HEB140 at the scrapyard. Overkill, but it doesn't really matter...
 
It will hold, at least.
