Hello! We are in the process of a complete renovation and have now moved on to the construction of a new bathroom. The only existing wall at the moment is the outer wall. So, we need to put up the remaining 3 walls. Currently, the floor at the site is torn up down to the joists. The new walls will be placed directly on the joists. Now I'm wondering how far apart the joists can be for the wall to be stable? Should we reinforce between the joists that run perpendicular to the wall so that the entire sill has support?
We are also deciding between wood and metal studs. Intuitively, the wood studs seem less sensitive to "gaps in the substrate." What do you think?

There won't be any actual load on the wall, so you don't need to add any additional support because of that, in my opinion. However, the floor needs to rest on something, and it's not good to have cc60 without support, so for that reason, you should insert something for the chipboard (or whatever you will use) to rest on. I understand that you are building a bathroom where there wasn't one before, and I guess you're going to have tile on the floor? You should then reinforce the floor structure under the bathroom; otherwise, there is a risk that the joints will crack or, worse, the waterproofing will be damaged.
