I am soon going to start building a new sheep house, it will be 4x4 meters and mostly constructed with 45x95 construction beams. It will stand on pillars that I will drill down about 1 meter, and between the pillars, there will be a 100x200 impregnated beam. Inside, it will be partly covered with minerit boards (to make it easy to clean), on the outside, it will be clad with vertical paneling, and the roof will be covered with corrugated sheet metal. I have some concerns about whether it will hold or not. It is framed cc60, and diagonal braces will also be recessed in (half in half) as well as noggings in the middle to support the boards. The trusses’ frame is built with 45x120 construction beams and inside a w-work with 45x70 construction beams, as well as a small piece of cut 45x220 at the eaves with a roof pitch of 35 degrees, placed 1 meter apart. There will only be battens on the trusses and then the sheets. I live in Stockholm, and the sheep house will stand on a slope that is earthy on the surface but sandy further down. Will the house withstand all frost heaves and heavy snow winters??
I believe in the construction. We have chosen to cover the interior walls with farm boards. Looks like formply, it will be very easy to keep clean. Depending on how high a bed you plan to straw up, maybe 120 up is enough. Then you're good with about 6 boards.
Animals are animals and it's not fun if the new build becomes a dirty and ugly shed after six months. The same thing applies to the outside really. Falurödfärg and you get pink fine sheep. Something to think about perhaps... the outside is a bit more challenging as it has to look nice too. Maybe electric wire...
What do these farm boards cost? I was thinking of protecting the sill and at the same time the walls with minerit board about 1m up, but if the farm board is just as good and maybe cheaper, it's an alternative I was thinking of letting the panel (lock panel 22x120) become weather gray and nice, so no red paint or tar
Probably the same money as formplyfa
Cost quite a bit. Hornless sheep? The Mimeriten skuöle kah say is more fragile. But what do I know... I think it will be a good construction. The sheep will definitely be satisfied.
Fancy.
What are you planning to use as flooring? I built a sheep house myself last fall and I'm going to buy sheep now this spring. I've been considering just having sand and straw bedding.
I filled up with sant and sten (the moraine material left over from the excavation) and now have a straw bedding. You want to preserve ground contact so the straw bedding warms up the ground and the animals. Then, to clean, I just drive in with the tractor and forks to muck out.
