And cheaper. But if you don't want to build it up in height, you might as well tear up the plank flooring first.
 
In hindsight, I regret not tearing up the old floor... The thing is, I have framed the old interior walls and built two new interior walls on the existing floor... believing that I could simply use leveling compound to make everything even.
