I have a half-timbered house that was reconstructed in 1995 according to the description below. Now the clay bricks/plaster have come loose as the wood has moved and formed various-sized cracks.
I wonder if anyone can help me with:
1) What material should be used to fill the cracks that have formed?
2) When is the best time of year to carry out the work?
3) What type of paint can I use and what preparatory work is required if I want to repaint the entire house?
Here is the description
The exterior walls are made of unbaked clay bricks, and the half-timbered construction consists of solid core pine. Approximately 80% of the timber has been replaced. The timber for the half-timbering was purchased at the root from slow-growing pine in Norrland. These were then dried in kilns where the logs shrank by about 15% to further harden the wood. Before being cut and carved into their intended spaces, the logs were placed in specially welded baths with raw linseed oil where they were saturated over a long period before assembly.
The clay bricks are plastered with lime mortar and painted with lime wash. The half-timbering is painted with Falu red paint.
