I have a hole down into the intermediate floor where the chimney goes up further to the attic. This will later be enclosed with closet walls, and a panel that can be lifted off for inspection.
But my question is:
Can I cover the hole in some way so I can avoid a lot of dust until the day I make the walk-in closet? Like cutting out a plasterboard and sealing it with something fireproof, or does it have to be open down there so the chimney sweep can inspect it?
As long as the chimney sweep hasn't checked the chimney and you don't light a fire, it doesn't matter how you do it. Just make sure you can remove it when the chimney sweep comes. I would call the chimney sweep and ask with what material it's most suitable to cover the hole, so you can keep it even when you start lighting a fire.
