Hi, I've taken down old Masonite boards against an exterior wall to redo some electrical work, the old boards went down a couple of centimeters into the joists and the OSB/gypsum ended up a bit above due to the ceiling height. There were some holes in the vapor barrier around the old VP pipes and such, and it smells a bit like "old insulation" around the floor. Is there something good you can use to seal it to prevent the smell from entering the room? Foam sealant? A gap of 10-15mm.

  • Gap between a drywall panel and a wooden floor, showing a space of 10-15mm, possibly causing old insulation odor issues.

Isn't a skirting board enough there?

No, I don't think a skirting board will suffice. I have sealed similar gaps with acrylic sealant, luckily I had an electric caulking gun. The result was very good, no drafts or smell through the gap.

Will be a lot of gaps, thought that expanding foam would fill better. But I am inexperienced with how expanding foam behaves.

Foam sealant is no problem to get that "windproof" if that's what you're after.
I would personally recommend "illbruck fm310".
It is a low-expanding foam that has better movement properties than traditional construction foam.

If you're not used to it, I would advise against expanding foam. It will swell and is hopelessly difficult to remove from your finished surfaces.
As someone wrote, mjukfog is the best.
