In general, black ones are 12.9 and shiny ones are 8.8, so painting them might not really work.

Guess that if you look at American motorcycle accessory sites, there are lots of screws for HD.

Yes, I do. But it's also important to know which screw you need 😊

I remember when a rocket (One of the Ariadne rockets, if I remember correctly) crashed because the American subcontractor forgot to convert their input data to inches, as they were calculating in inches...
No, it was 64 floating point to integer16 bit overflow and incorrect error handling that shut down the CPU as error handling.

Ariane 5 reused the code from the inertial reference platform from Ariane 4, but the early part of Ariane 5’s trajectory differed from Ariane 4 in having higher horizontal velocity values.

This caused an internal value BH (Horizontal Bias) calculated in the alignment function to become unexpectedly high.

The alignment function was active for about 40 seconds of flight, which was based on the requirement for Ariane 4, but served no purpose after lift-off of Ariane 5.

The higher values of BH caused a data conversion from a 64-bit floating point number to a 16-bit signed integer value to overflow and caused a hardware exception.

The programmers had protected only four out of seven critical variables from overflow to remain within the required maximum workload target of 80% for the embedded Inertial Reference System computer and relied on assumptions that were correct for the Ariane 4 trajectory, but not for Ariane 5, regarding the possible value range for the three unprotected variables.

The exception stopped both modules of the inertial reference system, even though they were intended to be redundant. The active module presented a diagnostic bit pattern to the onboard computer that was interpreted as flight data, which in particular caused full nozzle deflections of the solid boosters and the Vulcain's main engine. This led to an angle of attack of more than 20 degrees, causing the separation of boosters from the main stage, the triggering of the rocket’s self-destruct system, and the destruction of the flight.

Is it just me who thinks that TS should get a set of tools for inches instead of rebuilding the bike?

It's just you, the rest of us already read in the first post that TS has inch sockets 😀

TS wanted the existing screws to be black. Hopefully, they are the right screws with the correct strength already, and then it's much better to paint them than to replace them all, right?

I have used bluing liquid to blacken various screws and fittings. It's not perfect, matte, and sometimes a bit brownish, but it's simple.

There are several HD companies in Sweden too and to my knowledge, there are usually screw kits for almost the entire engine in all possible designs.
It feels a bit like trying to reinvent the wheel here........

Misinterpreted by me, apparently didn't read carefully, the only purpose seems to be to make the screws black, but mentioned that new ones were ordered and then someone wrote about painting and there I had bad luck and thought something about painting new screws.
