Running a fantastic basement project, beyond exhaustion - and now working on finishing walls. (Should have been before the floor: I know). Anyway, I'm using a fantastic scraping tool after having gone through steaming/wire brushing and diamond grinding to remove wallpaper. Now I'm wondering what is recommended for prep work before silicate painting? Interior concrete walls fully clear. Exterior walls of siporex, with some old filler left. Never had any moisture issues (white in the photos). How should I even out after scraping? Sand?? Do I need to improve the filler? Can I risk it? Traditional plastering is not feasible = too difficult / too heavy.

What do you say?

  • Concrete wall with visible marks and scratches reflecting light from a nearby window, part of a basement renovation project.
  • Concrete wall in a basement under renovation, showing scrape and sand marks with remaining old filler. Wooden beams and tools in background.
  • Concrete wall surface with visible texture and a shadow cast diagonally across. Some areas show signs of old plaster and minor cracks.
  • A scraper tool with a red and gray handle is resting on a concrete surface, used for a basement renovation project to remove wallpaper.
  • Concrete interior wall with scraped surface showing patches of previous spackling in a basement renovation project.
