Saw bricks by hand??

I have a fireplace that I would like to modify. It is currently covered with tiles that have cracked. I thought I would knock them off, but the biggest change would be to remove a protruding crown at the top and bottom of the fireplace. I want it to be square and smooth. How can I saw off the protruding bricks at the top and bottom?

Angle grinder with diamond blade or reciprocating saw with brick blade if you want it to go quickly and generate a lot of dust.

Otherwise, you can carefully try cutting them by hand with either a tile saw http://www.jula.se/kakelsag-120027 or a lightweight concrete/leca saw with carbide teeth http://www.jula.se/lattbetongsag-psw777-120317

Both of these saws (or really any saw with tungsten carbide or diamond blade teeth) will work, but it will be slow.

The tiger saw does not create more dust than the handsaw. It's just that it comes in a shorter time but usually not a problem and not at all comparable to a dust-generating angle grinder.

An angle grinder and someone spraying a little water also works if you are not afraid of shocks.
