What can 2 nailed together 45x170 support for load as a column?

It depends on how long they are and whether they are free-standing or have support.

With that information, an engineer can then calculate buckling.
 
45x170 serves as part of the outer wall on each side of the door/window opening. The length is 2400mm, likely notched to 2130 at the top for the 56x270 beam.

Moelven's laminated beam program has calculated the column load, and while it might be easiest to use their glued laminated timber columns, if I'm building a stud wall anyway, it might be best to use the same stud dimensions throughout.

Take a look at http://www.traguiden.se, where you can find tables for sizing and how much different dimensions can handle at various lengths and a lot of other information that's good to know when building.
 
Does the table mean that a 45*170 at 2.4m can withstand 69.19 in the Y direction before it snaps; is it kN in the table or does something need to be recalculated?

It is kilonewton in the table that is referred to, as stated in the information at the top. It says that it is the compressive force on the column, so I interpret it as how much the beam can withstand before it breaks from the weight. 69 kN is quite hefty, about 7 tons indeed.
 
I read and read but missed that information. I will, of course, double-check this, but I assume it works as I thought.
