Sitting and pondering a bit about raising the roof on our single-story villa. I'm looking for more living space. Currently, it's 109 sqm, no basement. I want to furnish the second floor with two bedrooms and a family room. Haven't had time to think about raised wall height, etc., only roughly calculated that I would get about 80 sqm extra.

I know there are many builders who specialize in this type of job, but I'm more interested in contracting out the frame and exterior and doing the rest myself.

I also know that this can be done in various ways, but what might be the most suitable in my case? The house measures 15x9 meters on the outside, roof angle 24 degrees, truss roof structure-cc 1.2 m supported by load-bearing exterior walls, no load-bearing interior walls.

Should I go with glulam beams or new free-spanning trusses? How do you handle the new floor joists, is it sufficient to achieve cc 0.6 m? I'm going to let a structural engineer look at this, but I'm already thinking. So feel free to share thoughts and ideas!

Have also been thinking and looking into this a bit. Now, I'm not a carpenter or designer, but what I read is that you should have a foundation that is suitable for a load-bearing interior wall (hjärtevägg). In my case, I'm unsure if I have this.

I'm having similar thoughts, I have a one-story with a basement. I'm a bit interested in adding a whole additional story with a roof with just one slope. Search for the word "taklyft", there are some threads (and pictures, etc.) about the topic here on the forum.

About the guys who raised our roof this summer. They worked great and do as much or as little as you want. But in hindsight, we feel we should have let them finish everything. Still struggling with the "final trims"...
