Roman rings in the ceiling but can't find the studs
I was thinking about installing Roman rings in the ceiling, but I'm having trouble finding the studs. The ceiling consists of Huntonit boards (11mm) screwed into a panel (?) 27mm (?) which in turn are screwed into the studs. Based on blurry pictures, I have a rough idea of where they are, but my stud finder is having trouble locating them.
Is it completely out of the question to mount the rings in the ceiling and panel? Both children and adults will be using them (the children might be a bit more "adventurous"). I was thinking of some sort of bracket/mount with 4 screws each. That would be about ~38mm to screw into, but with 4 screws, maybe it would be sufficient? Assuming you aim to at least be near a stud. From my blurry renovation pictures, it looks like there are about 60cm between the studs.

I wouldn't rely on something hanging on sparse paneling with my body weight, but then again, I weigh 100kg of pure dad bod. However, it's doubtful whether sparse paneling can hold even for those with more normal weight, and if lively children start climbing on each other, the weight can quickly add up.
Somehow, it means having to locate the studs.

You definitely need to attach them to the joists considering the movements you make with rings require more load-bearing capacity than just body weight.V Vortex said:I was thinking of installing Roman rings on the ceiling, but I'm having trouble finding the joists.
The ceiling consists of huntonit boards (11mm) screwed into a grid panel (?) 27mm (?) which in turn is screwed into joists.

Both children and adults will use them (the kids might be a bit more "wild").

If you make sure to at least be close to a joist.
From my blurry renovation pictures, it looks like the joists are about 60cm apart.
It might not help, but my stud finder has two different depth settings to search for, maybe worth seeing if you know someone who has one like that and testing it? (If yours doesn't already do that)
Yes, it might be that the screws/fasteners aren't the problem but rather the amount of wood to screw into. Unfortunately, there's a flat roof just there, so no attic to rummage around in 🙁 I'll ask around among friends if anyone has a more advanced stud finder. Mine is some free version from a magazine subscription, so not exactly top quality 😀
Now I don't know how sensitive you are to more holes in the ceiling, but sometimes you have to settle for the least bad option. So a tip is to simply drill, with a long narrow drill bit, in several places around the spot where a stud should be. Then you should be able to feel the difference between wood and a lot of wood, and thereby find the right spot.
