Hello,

I recently bought an apartment and in the hallway there is a built-in module, and I was told that unfortunately the texture behind it is not the same as the rest. I got curious and removed the module, and now I would like to recreate the texture as best I can, or find another solution.

As you can see in the pictures, someone has applied the filler quite extensively, but I have some depth space to work with, otherwise, I'll have to sand some of the old stuff.

How would you try to create the brick texture and with it a somewhat softer surface?

  • Wall with uneven texture and dark spackled patch, surrounded by lighter brick pattern. Nearby, a door and a small archway are visible in the hallway.
  • Wall with uneven white paint over rough dark plaster resembling brick texture, showing textured patches and partially covered screw holes.

Wonder if that might not be some form of plaster you could continue with. The pattern itself already exists on the current surface. Maybe a thick brush and thinly mixed could work?

Yes, would you say it is plaster? It feels very light compared to putty. The pattern is certainly there, even if it needs to be done right. It feels like plaster/putty will adhere well to the surface, so probably relatively easy to work with. Will check what suitable plaster compounds are available to buy.

I would apply filler/plaster. Dab with paper or fabric to create texture then do something like this.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips. An updated picture will be coming next week... if I succeed, that is.
