I have a house with quite a common foundation - 30cm of cellular plastic and a reinforced 10cm concrete slab on top of that. So, there are no reinforcements in the slab for heavier loads.

I'm wondering if it's possible to build a traditional single-flue brick chimney on top of this without extra reinforcement? (about 8 meters high)

The answer should already be on the forum - feel free to link to URLs if you manage to find the answer better than I did :)

It all depends on what actual load we are talking about and on what surface it is distributed, but without any facts, I think it is very doubtful.

When you place a large load on a small point on a slab, you are likely to get deflection and cracking as a result.

But it might be possible to find solutions that both aesthetically and functionally behave somewhat like a traditionally brick-built chimney. http://www.schiedel.se/produkter/blockskorsten/schiedel-isokern
