Hello,
Our house is from 1906 and we are in the process of replacing the roof as it has been well past its life span for many years. Where we saw the biggest leaks in the roof, we have now started tearing down, and a wall has completely rotten standing logs on the upper floor. 3-4 in width that I want to remove and replace with fresh timber. If you tap on them a bit, you can feel they are not secure.
The question is, there's hardly any load-bearing capacity in these, right? Shouldn't it just be a matter of removing and replacing them with new material? Or do I need to provide some sort of support?
Next to these, there are fresh logs that should reasonably hold up the log that lies horizontally above them?
