Wooden staircase with open steps and wooden railings, leading to an upper level in a residential interior; a picture hangs on the wall beside it. Does anyone have tips on how to replace handrails? To aluminum. Is it just about unscrewing the current wooden ones and then putting up the new ones? Sounds simple?

Describe for someone who has never done this before and is not particularly handy.

Check what mounting system the new ones have. The ones you have now are attached with screws with "wood threads" in the wall. The new ones certainly have a different mounting system. If you're very lucky, you can reuse the old screw holes and end up in a load-bearing material, such as a beam.
Perhaps you should wait until you redo the entire staircase.

I was just planning to paint the stairs black and replace the handrails... So I won't be touching the studs.
