Replace door frame - with what?
Hello
We have removed some doors in the house that we thought were completely unnecessary to have, and now we also want to remove frames and thresholds so that it just becomes a nice opening. The question is how to create a nice opening in the easiest way? I couldn't find any suitable boards to clad the insides with when I checked at the building supply store.

There are glulam boards.
I assume they are intended to be used as shelves, but the ones in pine are not terribly expensive and could be used as "hålfoder."
Otherwise, there are various particle boards and MDF that could be cut to size.

What tools do you need to purchase to get nice MDF casings? I'm also thinking of removing a door frame and an ugly homemade arch that should just become openings. Such a simple straight portal from Lundbergs isn't that cheap. http://www.lundbergs-prod.se/valv/portaler___175.aspx?prodId=19&startId=0 Maybe I can justify some fun tool purchases instead
MDF seems clever, but it seems impossible to find at construction stores like byggmax, cheapy, etc. MDF shelves were the closest I got.Farzan said:
Well, sure, it's cheaper to buy a sheet and split it yourself if you need a lot, but otherwise, there are MDF shelf boards both long and short, narrow and wide at bauhuse, among others.gadu^ said:
I believe the narrowest is only 200mm, but if you split it, you can get 2 pieces just over 100mm. A few millimeters less probably doesn't matter because you'll likely be edging around it later, benox?
Alpha, exactly right! Didn't think about the shelves...
But if you're not cutting it yourself, you need to consider that the saws at Bauhaus/Hornbach etc. might not always handle the narrow width that might be needed...

Pre-lacquered white moldings made of MDF can be purchased at Beijers - but they are not cheap! Moreover, they are not suitable if you are replacing a door, as they are designed to be set against a door or window

I usually use planed timber from Byggmax and paint myself.
