Hi, I have removed an old kitchen and tiles. The wallpaper came off, along with large parts of the plaster. There are even holes all the way through to the reed/straw and the wood behind in some places. How should I repair it?
The wall is indoors and consists of plaster (what type?) - reed/straw - vertical wooden planks (45 cm x 125 cm).
I was thinking that we might have to wallpaper over it to get a nice surface after I've repaired the wall.
Is 6 mm cover gypsum an option?

If you choose to smooth the wall, I can almost promise that it's lime mortar you should use. It is available pre-mixed at the hardware store, you only need to add water. You can also make it yourself, there is surely information about this on Google.

It's definitely lime plaster. You can easily notice if you take a small piece in your hand and squeeze it. If it turns to powder, then it's lime plaster, and that's what you should use. If it's plaster with cement, it's much harder to pulverize the plaster, and then you can use a C-mortar. Chip away anything that's loose before you start plastering, and then just proceed as usual. Then skim coat the wall, and you'll see that it's fine to wallpaper over it.

6 mm plasterboard is an option, especially if you want to take the opportunity to channel for recessed electrical outlets in the wall. However, it involves moldings, casings, etc.
It is excellent to use gypsum plaster, costing around 100 SEK for 25 kg and lasts a long time. Mix a few handfuls at a time with water in a small bucket and apply; it can be applied very thickly (but with longer drying time), or in several layers over several days. Finish with regular filler (medium).
