Hi, after some serious blasting about 200 meters away, I've got a little crack in my brick fireplace. I've been working from home and I'm surprised that it shakes so much in the house (which is built on solid rock), despite the distance. It's highly uncertain if it's even worth arguing with the blasting company, but I'm wondering how to repair such a damage as shown in the picture. Is it possible to just remove the plaster around the crack and repair it, or are we talking about a completely new masonry of the fireplace surround, etc.? Grateful for tips if anyone knows a mason in the Stockholm area who can handle this.

  • White masonry fireplace with a black metal door, featuring a small crack possibly due to nearby blasting. A painting is hanging on the wall beside it.
  • A crack in a white plastered brick fireplace, possibly from nearby blasting, showing a horizontal fracture line on the surface.
Anyone have tips on masons in Stockholm who can repair or create something new for this? When I checked with my usual construction guy, he said they no longer work with that, only pre-fabricated elements.

That crack is so small that I think if you paint it twice with, for example, silicate paint, you'll fill it. You don't need to hire anyone for that, not even a bricklayer who would take on such a small job.

If that doesn't work, fill it with some c mortar, just smooth it out with a sponge to get the same texture as the rest, then paint. You can do that in 15 minutes.
