Hello,

I have basement walls that need a little love. The previous owner, during the renovation of the basement floor, tore off a lot of plaster from the walls from the floor up - mainly at the door frames which are now loose. It looks quite dull and it didn’t get better when I taped the frames with duct tape. :(

The basement is currently in very good condition in terms of moisture, but I'm worried that I might mess it up by applying poor material when I start renovating. Can I plaster the wall with regular filler? If not - what should I use? Plaster seems difficult.

Regards

  • Damaged basement wall with peeling plaster near a doorframe, adjacent to a tiled room with wicker chairs and visible plumbing.
  • Basement wall with duct-taped door frame, tiles, electrical outlet, and scattered items on the floor; renovation context.
  • Doorway with damaged plaster around the frame, held with duct tape. Wooden walls and tiled floor lead to a closed door, with chairs visible.

If the door frame is loose, you can't fix it by putting some plaster on the wall; it needs to be secured first. Remove all the duct tape and then start by knocking off everything that's loose. Then take new pictures so it's clear. The frame must be attached to the wall no matter what, not with duct tape and not with plaster....🤔👍
