Hi!

I am going to re-wallpaper my bedroom in my apartment (built in 1944) and when I start tearing it down, there are like 3 layers of wallpaper and behind that a soft paper wall before the concrete wall!?

I fear it will be a nightmare to remove the paper wall, it is soft and flaky. See the picture...

I asked a painter I know, and he said the only option was to tear it down and plaster.

Is that the case, or do I have alternatives other than that?

Can one put drywall over all of this instead?

Can one put studs on top of this and then put a new wall? (there is draft from the wall in the winters so it would be nice to insulate too)

I would appreciate any advice!

Get rid of it!
Then you know it will be well done and last in the future, and that there are no horrors behind it. I wouldn't leave it...

It is a Tretex board that is mounted on the wall.
