I am in the process of tearing out to build a new kitchen. The interior walls of the house are kloasongvägg, i.e., wood paneling covered with plaster and reeds. The plaster is poor and something needs to be done before I put up the cabinets.

Does anyone have experience with renovating a kloasongvägg? Is it best to tear off the plaster and put gypsum on the wood paneling. Probably a heavy and dusty job.

Or should you attach gypsum directly to the plaster, easier but it becomes a thick wall and substantial screws to go through both the gypsum, the plaster to get into the paneling when I put up the wall cabinets.

I would also like to hide the electrical wires, can you rout grooves in a kloasongvägg? The plaster is about 2.5 cm thick.

Any ideas and thoughts???

Best to tear down all plaster and rendering. It will just turn into rubbish if you start tampering with it, whether you try to groove for hidden electrical installations or nail drywall on top. Even a hefty blow with a hammer on the wooden wall can cause the plaster to end up on the floor.

Dusty? Certainly. A face mask and safety goggles, as well as gloves, are recommended for those who will be tearing down. Use plastic sheeting to separate areas that shouldn't be covered in dust. Rent a dumpster and load it through the nearest window. Just remove the frames first
