Or rather, it's the gutter that needs to be refurbished. There are two or three holes in different places in the gutter. It looks like the ravages of time have simply eaten through the gutter. Can you repair this by "patching" the holes or in some other way? Or do you have to replace the whole thing?

Copper is expensive so renovating can be a shortcut. How does the gutter look where there is no hole?
Hard soldering/patching from the inside should work.

Craftsmen are also expensive, much like copper:D

Not so terribly large holes, more extended narrow holes in two places, they are perhaps at most 1 cm wide and 6-12 cm long (eyeballed). Got a tip today to use plastic padding chemical metal together with fiberglass mesh today, might work.

Temporarily, it certainly works. But if the copper is so bad in some places now, it won't be long until it's that way everywhere.

After more thorough investigations, it turned out that they are not copper pipes at all but neatly painted sheet metal pipes... I have now fixed them with plastic padding, fiberglass, and some duct tape, the neighbors will probably be shocked. In any case, it doesn't seem like a good solution, so it will likely need to be replaced. The question is then why not just buy plastic, is there any advantage to metal? besides the appearance?

Plastic :x , similar to plastic moldings indoors :x
The question is how long gutters survive outdoors compared to metal gutters.

Funny, you're wondering the same thing as me

My experience says that metal lasts longer than plastic.

Metal rusts - plastic cracks.

Plastic cracks, fades, and the glue in the seams usually detaches. Are they even cheaper?
