Hello. We were thinking of renovating our staircase which has been there since the house was built in '76.
I am completely inexperienced in construction. But can you remove the railing that goes up to the ceiling there? Any other tips on how to renovate? Anyone who has renovated their staircase and can show their results? I don't know what's possible exactly. We will of course hire a company to renovate.
Best regards

Cute cats! The trellis can be removed, it has no load-bearing function. The staircase seems to be entirely in solid pine, so it's just a matter of sanding it down. Or is there something on the top surface of the steps? If so, what? A better treatment method than clear varnish is hard wax oil, e.g., Osmo. Do you really need to hire a company for this?
Hi! Yes, it's a brown carpet.J justusandersson said:Cute cats! The trellis can be removed, it has no load-bearing function. The staircase seems to be completely solid pine, so just sand it down. Yes, we probably need to bring in a company. Both my husband and I are not skilled with our hands.
We chose carpet for the dogs' sake and bought it at the local Colorama store. I made a paper template for each step and then cut the carpet with a steel ruler and sharp knife. It was a bit tricky to get it perfect...F Fjanten said:
