Hi,
I have taken down the wall between the kitchen and living room to create an open floor plan. The kitchen is almost fully assembled and soon ready for installation. I am caught between deciding what to do about:
1. The parquet in the kitchen - very damaged, plus not original like in the Living Room.
2. Where the wall used to stand, there is now a ~120mm gap between the two floors.
- If I decide to keep the parquet in the kitchen, what is the best way to create a seamless transition/trim (the height difference is only about 1-2mm) between the floors?
- If I decide to remove the parquet, there is a vinyl floor underneath in the kitchen. I have considered Microcement there, if so, how would you create a seamless transition to the living room's parquet? Or are there other nice/smart ideas?

Thank you very much for all the help and inspiration.

  • Floor transition area between kitchen and living room showing exposed gap, cardboard pieces, and renovation tools.
  • Gap in flooring between kitchen and living room, with exposed concrete and cardboard pieces nearby in a renovation setting.
Building a wall can probably look nice.

Buy a long and wide oak trim that you can shape so that it can be recessed between the floors and preferably go slightly on top of the adjacent floors. Similar to this but wider: https://www.kahrs.com/sv-SE/golv/tillbehor/lister/massiv-t-list-58x12-mm
