Hello, I'm looking to install track panels on the ceiling.

Currently, there's a load-bearing batten with plasterboard mounted underneath. The ceiling is a dropped ceiling made in the 70s. Above is the outer roof, and the old inner ceiling is probably insulated. The insulation is not "comprehensive" either; it sits in the middle. There are also electrical cables running under the insulation on a yellow plastic mat.

I would prefer to tear down the whole setup and attach the track panels directly to the load-bearing batten.

I'm worried it might become too heavy otherwise and generally want better access in the future. Is it a bad idea to remove that insulation?

Best regards

  • A room under renovation with a stepladder, debris bags, and construction materials scattered on the floor. A partially stripped ceiling and wall.
  • Insulation panels and electrical cables on a yellow plastic sheet under a ceiling in an attic space, supported by wooden battens.
  • View of a ceiling structure with wooden battens, insulation, electric cables, and a section with newspaper in a metal container.
Is the yellow some kind of heat mat, I wonder?

Edit. Do you want to tear it up all the way to the old ceiling?

I would have removed the inner ceiling and built on the original roof, worth the extra work! :)

Hi, they were heating mats.

I ended up tearing down the old roof

Good decision, it was a substantial improvement for the room with a higher ceiling height

Absolutely the right decision to raise the ceiling! Are there no regular radiators in the room?

There are radiators, I don't know why they had these, some strange things here and there. They were also not in use. The electrician was happy that the ceiling came down because the cables were like jungle vines up there.

Perhaps it was lyhört. In that case, the solution was good, it effectively dampens the sound.
