Hello, I would like to remove this wall to create a larger space if possible. The wall consists of 75 mm tongue and groove planks. Could one place a plank along the ceiling on both sides of the wall and cut the wall under these planks? The length is 5.3 m. After cutting, perhaps a horizontal plank could be nailed that covers the width of the other planks. Possibly, a post to the floor approximately in the middle of the length to help support the whole thing, and also on each side. Is this a way to go, or is an I-beam necessary? What do you think, would it be too weak?

I would bet on a glulam beam or an I-beam instead. I'm not quite sure what you mean with your solution? I'm sure there's someone here on the forum who can help you with the sizing.

5.3 m is a considerable span that requires a beam of fairly large dimensions...
Describe the floor plan and how much load is on the wall so that someone can answer what beam you need.

Just nailing planks along the ceiling sounds like the same illegal building fraud described in this thread....

Yes, this will probably have to be a thing for a carpenter with more experience than myself. ::)

I hope a constructor!

Hello!
I can't see what kind of flooring is in the room. But a well-tested method to relieve the wall is to temporarily erect a beam (type I beam) with jacks or pillars along the wall's length, then dismantle the wall. The next step is to erect the construction that will replace the wall. A pillar at each end is mounted directly to the foundation wall or slab (possibly over a sill), and a load-bearing beam that replaces the wall. You should leave the dimensioning of these to a structural engineer. If you decide to use glulam, I recommend calling Svenskt Limträ and asking if they can help you with this. They helped me with the dimensioning of a roof ridge beam and at no cost. ;)

Best regards, Mats H
