Refresh yellowed plastic?

I am helping fix up a 1960s apartment. Door frames, trim, and kitchen cabinet edges are made of plastic (PVC?) and have yellowed over time. Is there any way to restore the white color? Any paint that adheres well or chemical that bleaches the plastic. I have found a couple of threads here on Byggahus with the same question under kitchen but no one ever provided an answer there.
