Refine concrete surface on fireplace?

Hi! As you can see in the pictures, I need to tidy up the surfaces on the bench around the fireplace; the rest will be filled and painted white. I want these to have a concrete feel but don't know how to treat the surface.

Should I add more concrete 1-2cm (is additional reinforcement required?) and hope it becomes smoother/nicer?
Self-leveling compound as a surface? Fill and paint in concrete color?
Does microcement work?

Feel free to share other ideas, I'm open to anything!
