Have built a free-standing compost of Leca and plan to plaster it. I've bought red primer A and plaster mix B. It's my first time both building and plastering, feels like a forgiving first project to fail with :)

1. I've read that you should plaster with B the day after priming with A. Do I have to, or can I wait until next weekend?

2. Do I need to plaster with red primer below ground level too? What does it help with?

3. For the edge cladding, I was thinking of using wood. Does it need to slope, or can it be horizontal?

1. One week is ok.
2. If you still have rödgrund left, then do it. Rödgrund is an adhesive that is actually meant for concrete surfaces that you want to plaster. To reduce the risk of bom.
3. If it slopes, then the wood should last longer.

Perfect that you started this thread now, I will do the same this fall. Feel free to write a bit about how it turned out and if you have any tips.

Absolutely!

I can give tips right away
* Dig deeper than you think. I only managed to fit 5cm of gravel on one side, which makes leveling difficult and it could settle after a frost.
* Dig wider than you think. I dug about 30cm wide, which is now causing issues when I'm plastering as in some places it's too tight. I have to squeeze it in a bit and dig out a little more in other parts.
* Set up proper supports so you can tighten a string next to what you're building, regardless of how small the project. Otherwise, there's a lot of manual work per stone to ensure it doesn't start "drifting."
* Buy a self-leveling laser for height adjustments using a few extra mm of mortar where needed if there's a difference.
* After I finished building, I concluded that there's no way it could matter if there's an 8-10mm difference between the highest and lowest points. There should be at least 10mm of plaster AND edge protection on top that you can adjust as needed. My difference ended up being about 3mm... completely unnecessary precision.
